The SDCN Fall Kick-off 2021!

The SDCN Fall Kick-off 2021!

Stockholm Dual Career Network commenced the fall semester with the SDCN Fall Kick-off 2021 – an event that is eagerly looked forward to by all the members of the Network, but especially by the newcomers to Stockholm.

The bi-annual Kick-off events (the first one in spring, and the second in fall) are a great opportunity to break the ice and get to know SDCN and fellow members a little better.

The Fall Kick-off 2021 too saw a lot of first-timers, some of whom had arrived in Stockholm just weeks back.

After Sophia Wallin (Senior Strategist, Stockholm Academic Forum) gave a brief introduction to the Network, the members in attendance introduced themselves. This was followed by an engaging panel discussion moderated by Sheetal Palav, the President of SDCN.

The panelists – Sara Andraghetti, Veronica Kantsevaya and Anirban Dey – talked about their own experiences of settling down in Stockholm, how they found their feet, how they networked and made friends, and how they went about looking for and landing a job. Veronica advised – ‘Get as much feedback as you can. You might look at your CV a hundred times, but it’s always better to get advice from someone who knows the Swedish job-market.’  ‘Think of the job-searching process in Sweden as a marathon, not a sprint,’ added Anirban.

Sara underlined how important SDCN was in this process of integration – ‘For me, SDCN has been absolutely fundamental. Through the Network, I met new friends, and got a lot of useful tips about my LinkedIn profile, cover letter and CV. After the feedback I got from SDCN, I started to get contacted by recruiters.’ Veronica echoed her sentiments – ‘I was very happy to learn about SDCN when I came to Stockholm. SDCN has given me a chance to connect with people who are in the same situation as me. It has been like a warm blanket of support and understanding.’

The Fall Kick-off gets the SDCN event calendar rolling. So, whether you are looking to explore your new hometown Stockholm, seeking advice on your CV or your LinkedIn profile, interested in practising Swedish, looking to upskill yourself or looking to network – we’ve got an exciting semester for you!
