Mental Health for expat partners – with Turning Point

Relocating to a new country as an expat partner, you might face many challenges (personal, professional, etc.) with ups and downs. Sometimes you might feel depressed, overwhelmed, or discouraged. This workshop is aimed to address the challenges of expatriation in general and in Sweden in particular; to give you concrete psychological tools to deal with those challenges; and lastly, to make you aware of the opportunities embedded in expatriation in Scandinavia.

At this event, you will get the chance to meet Rossana Pettersén, PhD. She is a psychologist with many years of experience in scientific research in psychology (Karolinska Institute, Dep. Clinical Neuroscience) as well as experience as a psychotherapist. She was born in Peru and has been an expat since childhood due to her father’s job at the United Nations. Around 95% of her clients are expats, and she is very aware of their difficulties and challenges when moving to Sweden.

Worshop content:

  • Intercultural differences that may become obstacles. What about my identity?
  • Individual characteristics that may become barriers and those which can become facilitators
  • Recognising and dealing with depression, anxiety, feelings of isolation and the “What are you complaining about?”
  • Opportunities for growth as an expat
