Swedish Business Culture and Professional Networking

Every country has its own set of formal and informal codes as part of its business culture, and Sweden is of course not an exception.

For newcomers to Sweden, getting to know what is expected and acceptable – both professionally and socially – at Swedish workplaces is not only important to have a deeper understanding of common practices, but can also be crucial for landing a job!

One of these practices is networking. Networking in Sweden is considered to be one of the most important aspects of getting visibility, access to jobs or related professional information.

There are several ways to network online and in-person, but you need to know how and where to find such opportunities to connect with others. You also need to be aware of how to initiate conversations, how to present yourself, your work and goals, as well as how to take the connection forward when you venture out to network.

At this session conducted by Elisabeth Ericson, you will get to:

  • develop an understanding of formal and informal codes of Swedish workplaces.
  • learn how to successfully network in a Swedish professional environment.
  • develop a personalised ‘elevator pitch’ through practising professional presentations.
  • practise networking with other SDCN members.
  • build up your confidence to get out there and network!

Bonus!

The purpose of this event is for members to actually network with people, and therefore participants will also write a networking email under Elisabeth’s instructions. She will share your email with pertinent professionals in her network.
