Taking care of yourself: mental health for expat partners

Relocating to a new country as an expat partner is like starting a whole new chapter full of boundless opportunities such as exploring a new part of the world, starting a new career or learning a new language, to name a few.

During this time, you may also come face to face with several challenges. You might have to put your career on hold and go through the sometimes not-so-fun job application process while dealing with the emotional toll of leaving your friends and family behind. Mile-long to-do lists, personal obligations and the pressure to find a job can mount and cause you to confront a revolving door of emotions and thoughts. This is why checking in with your mental health regularly is so important.

If you’re sitting there wondering “well, how?!”, then this workshop is for you.

Join Melis Aktas, from the SDCN Management Team, a mindfulness practitioner with a background in clinical and organisational psychology, as she takes you through an informative workshop whilst providing opportunities to take a break, discuss mental health or to talk and listen to each other at a pace to suit all those attending.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Challenges expat spouses face
  • How to check in with your own mental health
  • The job application process & dealing with rejection
  • Coping strategies
  • Mindfulness techniques & resources
  • Stigma surrounding mental health
  • Mental health services in Sweden and how to access them.

This event will be held online on Zoom. Please register no later than 13 April. A link to the Zoom meeting will be sent to your email before the event starts (remember to check your spam folder if you haven’t received it).
