Korta vägen (The short way to employment)

Korta vägen (The short way to employment)

Korta vägen is a free program designed to help newcomers with at least 3 years of university studies abroad enter the Swedish job market. It consists of a combination of Swedish language and culture courses followed by an internship and lasts 26 weeks.

The tricky part is that you do not apply directly to korta vägen — it is your case officer (handledare) at Arbetsförmedlingen who recommends you to the program, but nothing prevents you from indicating to her/him that you are interested in taking part in korta vägen.

In order to be eligible, you need to

  • be registered with Arbetsförmedlingen,
  • have a valid residence permit and intend to stay in Sweden for the long term,
  • have studied at least 3 years of the university level (You will need to bring your study certificates or diplomas to your case officer as proof),
  • have basic skills in Swedish and be fluent in English.

Some Arbetsförmedlingen administrators insist that the korta vägen is meant first and foremost for qualified people from outside the European Union, especially from war zones, and it makes sense that people with refugee status get priority. However, it depends entirely on the case officer and some case officers have recommended expats for the program, including some EU citizens. Don’t be shy to insist with your case officer, who might offer you another service / program if korta vägen is not available:

  • Snabbspår (the fast-track program): a 40-week program similar to korta vägen but focused on professions needed in Sweden at the moment,
  • paperwork to enables you to do an internship (praktik) if you find a company / institution interested in having you as an intern for up to 3 months. SDCN-Labour market training programme
