Walk in Skogskyrkogården

Join us for a walk in the tranquil environs of Skogskyrkogården  (24 October, Saturday). A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Skogskyrkogården literally translates into ‘the Woodland Cemetery’. It was designed by famed Swedish architects Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz, and is easily accessible by the tunnelbana on the green line.

Although the cemetery is worth a trip any time of the year, an especially moving time to visit is during Allhelgonahelgen or the All Saint’s Day. On that day it is traditional for family and friends of those who are interred in the cemetery to light a candle and lay down fresh flowers at the grave in commemoration of the departed. The landscape of the cemetery comes alive with thousands of tiny candle flames flickering in the dark, making for a memorable sight.

Since all guided tours to Skogskyrkogården stand cancelled right now because of the pandemic, we are planning to go by ourselves and get a feel of the place. Skogskyrkogården is spread over a huge area, so observing the rules of physical distancing will not be a problem at all. Your families are more than welcome to join in. We will meet at the entrance of the Skogskyrkogården tunnelbana stop at 12:00 and then proceed towards the park.

Please sign up below if you would like to join us so we know how many to expect. Hope to see you there!
